2020 was a crazy year. The Corona virus changed how we go to school, how we go shopping, and even how we watch football. I’m sure it was rough for the players, but it was hard on football fans all around the world. We couldn’t go to games or practices, we couldn’t even tailgate before games. But, we made it through the year and are finally nearing the Super Bowl.

In Super Bowl 55, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will be facing each other. I looked into the team’s top four players and their season stats, to see who’s most likely to win. Will it be the defending champs, the Kansas City Chiefs or the surprisingly good Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Kansas City Chiefs

After winning Super Bowl 54, the Chiefs had a lot to live up to this season. Scoring 473 total points in the regular season, they went 14-2, 1st in the AFC West.

The most relevant player on the team is their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. He collected 308 rushing yards, 4,740 passing yards and threw 38 touchdown passes in the regular season.

One of the teams wide receivers is Tyreek Hill. He had 1,276 receiving yards and scored 17 touchdowns in the regular season. After playing at West Alabama in college, he learned how to play at his best no matter what.

Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Chiefs, had 1,416 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He played his best season yet, jumping up 200 receiving yards from last year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With the additions of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, the Buccs came up on top this year. They scored a total of 492 points in the regular season and finished 2nd in the NFC South.

Their quarterback, Tom Brady, came over from the New England Patriots this season. He ran for a total of six rushing yards, 4,633 passing yards, and threw 40 touchdown passes in the regular season.

Chris Godwin, a wide receiver for the Buccs, scored 7 touchdowns for the team in the regular season. He racked up only 840 yards, but still made his mark.

One of the team’s tight ends is Cameron Brate. He had 282 receiving yards and only two touchdowns this regular season.

Final Thoughts

In the regular season when the Buccs and the Chiefs faced each other, the Chiefs won. The Chiefs were ahead the whole game. Going into the fourth quarter, it looked like they were in the clear, winning 27-10. But, the Buccaneers made a comeback in the fourth. They scored 2 touchdowns, bumping the score to 27-24. Sadly, they ran out of time and couldn’t finish off the comeback. It shook the Chiefs up. Will they remember this comeback and play differently this Super Bowl? Or was the comeback a fluke?

The Super Bowl is being played in Tampa, Fla., the first time a Super Bowl is being played in one of the teams home stadiums. This could be an advantage for them. Hearing the sound of fans around you, playing on your own field can help you feel more relaxed and allow you to play better.

The Super Bowl is on February 7 at 5:30 pm CST.
